Lauren Gottschalk, Owner & Expert Bridal Seamstress
Lauren's love affair with crafting and sewing began in her childhood, evolving into a lifelong passion. Her skills flourished during her formative years, and while at Hampshire College, she delved into fashion design with a vision focused on body positivity, social change, and empowerment. Lauren's journey continued at the esteemed Parsons School of Design, followed by a fulfilling career as a fashion designer in the vibrant streets of New York City.
After starting a family in Northampton, MA, Lauren's creative spirit persisted. Amidst caring for her three young boys, she not only designed but also launched her limited edition collection tailored for pregnant women and new moms. Armed with years of experience and an extensive skillset, Lauren was hired at Ana Sousa’s and proudly collaborated with Ana for 7 years at the premier tailoring boutique in the Pioneer Valley before assuming ownership of the business in 2025 and renaming it to “The Fit”. Her expertise shines particularly having worked with countless brides, skillfully altering wedding gowns, creating custom bustles, and showcasing her mastery with various types of bridal wear. At The Fit, Lauren brings her wealth of experience to ensure every piece tells a unique story, making your special moments truly extraordinary.
Ana Sousa, Founder, Original Owner (Ret.)
Before retiring, Ana was a beacon of craftsmanship and delight for her clients for over 25 years. Nestled in her sun-filled custom tailoring boutique in Hadley, MA, Ana brought an unparalleled level of expertise. Her journey, marked by a deep connection with fabrics and a commitment to excellent workmanship, has made Ana Sousa's a cherished destination for those seeking bespoke tailoring and an extraordinary touch.
At the age of nine, Ana Sousa's journey with fabric began when her father brought home a sewing machine, hoping someone in the family might unlock its potential. Little did he know that this serendipitous introduction would set Ana on a lifelong path. Enamored by color, imaginative design, and the sheer joy of working with fabrics, Ana was already crafting her own clothes in junior high. By her twenties, she seamlessly transitioned into designing and selling couture clothing.
Her artistic pursuits led her to New Mexico Highlands University, where she delved into art and weaving, laying the foundation for her creative prowess. Returning to her native Massachusetts in the 1970s, Ana continued to follow her passion for sewing and fabrics. Furthering her education in pattern making and design at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Ana honed her skills.

Upon booking your appointment, our warm welcome extends to a comfortable and spacious private dressing room, where you can try on your garment(s). Our expert tailors will then engage in a detailed discussion about your needs, exploring the necessary alterations to ensure you look and feel your absolute best on your wedding day. Options will be explored, and your tailor will expertly pin things in place, providing you with a preview of the transformative journey your garment will undergo to achieve a perfect fit and flattering look tailored just for you. Before you leave, you’ll be provided with an estimate and we’ll schedule you for a follow up fitting. Here at The Fit, you’re in good hands.
